It’s finally true, I’ve finished my internship. Between the internship and my special studies course, I’m wrapping up the most exhausting semester of my two and a half years in the MLIS program. Not only did I do 135 hours for the internship, I did over 165 hours for my special studies class. I can’t wait for the end of the week, when I’ll have everything submitted for both courses and can relax!
Long story short, I didn’t receive any major assignments from my internship site supervisor the past two weeks, so I made up the difference in hours by writing posts for the SJSU School of Information internship blogs. The rest of the week was dedicated to my final report, completing a site evaluation, doing a final check in with the site supervisor, and reviewing a cataloging guide at the request of my supervisor.
This internship in digital asset management was a great learning experience. I learned so much about metadata and controlled vocabularies and it was nice to see the born-digital side of the archival field. I’m excited that I had the chance to learn more about a special library in a museum.
I hope to complete one more internship next summer before I graduate. I just saw a great one at my dream library. Unfortunately, it’s on site only and since I work full-time, I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. I doubt my current job would be flexible enough to let me switch days so I could work on a weekend in order to do an internship. But, perhaps I’ll find another opportunity. Or, maybe I’ll apply to this one anyway and see what happens.

And I just realized I never posted hours for the very first week of the internship: 8.5
